Breast reduction

Breast reduction surgery - Reduction Mammaplasty

In this case breasts are large and sagging.

The surgical procedure involves reducing, lifting and reshaping large and sagging breasts.

Depending on the size and shape of breasts there are a number of operative techniques. Your surgeon advises you, and decides on the adequate operative technique.

The most frequent operative techniques:

1. Reverse-T is technique which involves a circular scar around the areola, one vertical, and one horizontal scar, the latter one is in the furrow under the breast.

2. Vertical technique, with circular scar around the areola, and only a vertical scar from the areola down, which in the first two months appears to have small folds around it and these eventually disappear.

3. Periareolar technique, after which only a circular scar remains around the nipple, which initially also has folds around it, but which under the pressure from the gland inside gradually disappear. This technique is not suitable for very large breasts.

Scars around the areola disappear completely, and so does the horizontal scar in the furrow under the breast.

Surgery lasts from 2.5 to 3.5 hours and is done under general anesthesia. Special bra is included in the cost of operation, and is worn for 4-6 weeks.

It is recommended to rest for 5-7 days. Stitches are removed after two weeks. After this intervention it is likely that breastfeeding will not be possible.
